Torn Hawk – Tarifa 12"
2012. Limited Edition. Hand stamped white label
Latest in L.I.E.S.' unpredictable agenda comes from Torn Hawk, a Brooklyn-based artist with a very cool line in slow, psychedelic Kraut-ish disco. A-side his 'Tarifa' sounds like Craig Leon's 'Nommos' meets Daniel Lopatin's screwed '80s boogie, all ring modulated drums, languid synth washes and unfurling guitar stroke, while 'A Piece Of The Storm' casts Vini Reilly-esque guitar notes across a more insistent, motorik drum pulse. B-side's 'Shock Tape' s0inks back into slopped '80s jam mode compatible with Aaron Coyes' of Peaking Lights' Face Plant output, and 'Mark Of The Hound' sounds like older James Ferraro trying to do sincere dance music.
